With the 2018 holiday season in full swing, the National Traffic Safety Administration is reminding drivers that it is never OK to drive impaired.
As part of the NHTSA’s Drive Sober campaign, law enforcement officers are out in greater numbers this time of year pulling over not only drunk drivers but drug impaired drivers who represent a danger on our roads.
The annual Drive Sober Our Get Pulled Over campaign kicked off December 14 and will run through New Years to stop drivers who are driving under the influence across the country, preventing DUI accidents before they happen.
According to the NHTSA, over 10,000 motorists lost their life in 2017 in car crashes attributed to impaired driving. They recommend that all drivers consider the following to stay safe:
- Drivers should never drive drunk or high. Either designate a driver or take advantage of the many ride sharing conveyances available.
- Take the keys away from friends or family members who are impaired and make arrangements for them to get home safely.
- If you see an impaired or distracted driver, call 911 to report it.
- Wear seat belts when operating a car and ensure passengers buckle up too.
