The Labor Department has sued tech giant Oracle alleging that the company routinely pays Caucasian male workers more, leading to discrimination against female, African-American and Asian employees. The suit goes on to allege that Oracle favors Asians over non-Asians when recruiting and hiring for product development and other technical roles.
Oracle is no doubt feeling the pain as the suit puts hundreds of millions of dollars in federal contracts in jeopardy because the government prohibits contractors from engaging in employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, and national origin.
The complaint is seeking lost wages, stock, interest, front wages, salary adjustments, promotions and all other lost benefits of employment and a reform of the alleged discriminatory policies. Flexing its muscles, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) has requested all of the company’s government contracts be canceled and that it be prohibited from entering into future federal contracts if it doesn’t provide the relief ordered in the suit.
